Simatai | The Great Wall
Simatai is the wildest and most dangerous of the Great Wall hikes we do in this series. It also offers some of the most spectacular scenery. This 10km hike looks simple from the outside but puts up some major challenges as DJ, Andy and Jack take it on during a warm April day.

Silang Duoji thought of running as a means to leave the confines of farm life and see the rest of the world, but this mushroom picker didn’t have the means, not even a simple wristwatch to time his run or a backpack bladder. He was resolute though and ran a 70-km race. Halfway through, he collapsed. How did this young Tibetan runner from Daocheng Yading in Sichuan get back up to carve a place i...

Just came across the channel, great information. I am planning a trip to china in the near future and i normally travel with 2 or 3 phones, personal, business and local/travel. Would you recommend a phone brand that works well in china and Asia, so i could set it up for everything china and Asia has to offer. I know that a few people having issues with apple and google devices.
I don’t think there is an issue with the phones just many websites and apps are blocked. Apple and android phones are very popular in China.
You should take a look at Mac ritchie reservoir and the tree top walk. It has a nice combination of old swarms, rain forests, wild life and a tree top bridge overlooking dense forest area. Away from any buildings. Pretty easy to trek too.
Did you have to get a China mobile number to use DIDI?
Not necessary but if you don't have one the driver will not be able to call you if you can't find each other. That said I have never had an issue with that.
@@DroneandPhone were you able to communicate to the drive through Alipay ?
@@curesnow6493 yes there is a messaging system inside the app that will translate. It's pretty simple once you use it.
Hi there. Can I have the link for ski pass deal please? Could not find it. Thank you so so much.
Thanks for watching, assuming you are asking a sking for the ski pass deal for Fulong from this episode, they have not released the full information about winter pass deals yet, but you can try to have a look on WeChat : #小程序://富龙/UwmJ3zN1zufQ6cA
How long it takes sir from po pin chau to stone stack?plan to go solo hike thank you
Ewe went the opposite way, but I would say about 1 hour.
Thank you! Wise words and great story.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching :)
Shangrila is like a big foot , it doesn't exist.
Amazing and fun day in the river
That was so much fun!
Thanks. Useful information, but the problem you don’t explain is how to get a WiFi account in China. Can one simply purchase a SIM card at the port of entry airport. I am flying to Wuhan. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It’s normally better if your mobile provider offers affordable roaming in China as this may also get round the firewall. If not you can get SIM cards at most airports or go to a mobile provider shop after you arrive. You will need your passport and expect to wait a while to get it all done.
@@DJClark Thanks for the advice. I will explore roaming from my Verizon account
Thank you 😊
Looks very hard
Good place
A lovely day out at the Bike Park. It packs quite a lot of different styles of riding in a fairly compact area. Definitely fun for all the family! Cheers

Thanks for the video. This is fascinating. I wish you had added the Chinese names to the places instead of just the English names.
Nice video but confusing to follow as the order of your video doesn't match the journey.
Enjoyed he whole experience. Thank you for this!!!!
Our pleasure!
So glad to see this! Do you have any suggestions on where to rent a bike on HK Island? A short refill at the local canteen or coffee shop for an afternoon tea/egg tarts/fishballs or a quick grocery tour to the wet/supermarkets for dinner after the ride/hike/run once in a while? Good exercises cannot be completed with nutritious foods:)
Would like to see this filmed on a sunny day. Amazing views.🙂
Hi 👋 im from SG - wondering the time of the year you'd embarked on this trail?
We did it in winter Nov -Mar which is the best season for hiking in Hong Kong. Of course it is possible to hike all year round but it’s a lot tougher and potentially more dangerous in the summer.
Shangri-la is in the movie " Lost horizon "
Who is after watching "kalki 2898ad"movie 🍿🎥 .....in the search 🔍 of shambhala 👍
So i can just add my Capital One credit card (master card in America) to ali pay and use the scan system and I'm good to go?
Is it possible to cycle to the starting point from the nearest mtr? But I suppose it will be a lot of uphill
Yes it is possible, we have done it in the series Ten Best Bike Rides, but it involves a 500M elevation climb from Tsuen Wan so not an easy bike ride in our book, but possible if you have a good bike.
You're THE man. Thanks so much!!!
Can you make one about 5 shaded rides for the summer?
We will recommend which ones are best for summer in the final wrap episode
Tindigan ng Military Outpost yan! Ang ganda niya talaga 😮
Thank you for sharing your ride! I hope you can also share the route you took using an app like Strava.
Or perhaps you could share a link to the trip details shown at 0:29 on Google Earth
This is so helpful!!!! Thank you so much!
Excuse me, your telephone number is in Hong Kong. What happened to people that’s international because I’m trying to use the app and add my international credit card and it’s not allowing me. It’s giving me a restriction saying my card is international…🫣🫣🫣#fyi🇨🇳🇯🇲
I think that ....at the tym when whole world sleeps, then after tht.... The city called Shangri-La....rises...so, no one could able to find it👍 .........🌌🌌
Did you use your own country sim card to book didi? Or china sim card?
You can use you local sim if you have a data plan but the didi driver won't call you if he/she can't find you. Normally it is not an issue as you can text as well.
Hi friend! If i understand well, i can choose how i want to pay via Alipay: by scanning or show and put my payment code, right ?
Very practical information for travelers. Short & to the point. Thank you!
WoW! Cheers for more awesome and lovely rides!
Xiang not xian
Thanks for spotting it! We have made the changes:)
If whole of Bhutan is not ShangriLa then i wonder where you are finding it?
Seems we will have some navigating to do inside the villages. Maybe a gpx file will be very helpful as a bonus😁. Though I'm willing to get a little lost if I start early.
Hi ThePeanutization - We'll be posting the whole series on our website soon along with google maps and directions. The route is actually quite easy to follow as there are signs along the way also. Look forward to hearing your experience.
Can't wait to try this also. I just tried the old military road recently when I saw it in your videos. Which one would you say is more difficult?
Great, you rode the military road! Lamma is very easy going by comparison with only a couple of very short steep hills. We think you'll enjoy it.
Pretty poor instructions. Don't skip steps.
May I know which month you visited Beijing for ski ?
we have a new series on skiing in Chongli ua-cam.com/play/PLkD3s6EbuWxwUq2IWDb6QU-3WtHDV97vN.html&si=IC7H3ZFI7m-tajHm best to ski November to March.
The Lost Horizons book is 100% fiction, how can one find this fictional place in the real world?
thank you somuch!
Cool what was you trek, how long and who was your travel agency ? Many tks for your comments.I ll try to visit Shangri La next year
We arranged the trek ourselves with a local guide we found online. Check the other episodes in this series to see the trek.
@@DJClark Tks for your feedback.Did you keep local guide contact ( name and email address ) Where did you start your trek Tks for your help
@@miramoneric6988 I no longer have the contact unfortunately but if you watch the whole series ua-cam.com/play/PLkD3s6EbuWxzO0Ym0PF9izRTZtcnJ7o1Y.html you should be able to get a much clearer picture.
